From Coma Survivor to Long-Distance Runner: Why I Finally Added Creatine to My Running Routine

If you follow my journey on Instagram, you know my story. I’m a coma survivor who defied the odds and rebuilt my life, eventually finding my strength in long-distance running. My story is one of resilience, second chances, and testing what my body can achieve when pushed.

As a man in my 40s balancing a demanding career, family life, and often high-mileage training, optimizing my recovery and energy isn't just a preference, it’s non-negotiable. Yet, for the longest time, there was one supplement I completely overlooked: Creatine.

To be completely honest, I was late to the party.

Like many runners, I used to fall into the old trap of thinking creatine was strictly for bodybuilders looking to bulk up in the gym. I assumed it had no place in an endurance runner's nutrition regime. But in my 40s, with recovery at the centre of everything I do, I decided to challenge my own assumptions and give Bio-Synergy Creatine Boost a shot.

Six weeks later, I only wish I’d started sooner. Adding Bio-Synergy Creatine Boost to my daily routine was seamless. Over the initial six weeks, as my weekly mileage increased and life kept its usual fast pace, the impact on my performance and recovery was clear.

Here are the key benefits I’ve noticed in just six weeks:

While running is primarily aerobic, distance runners rely heavily on short bursts of energy, whether tackling steep gradient inclines, sprinting to the finish line, or surging during interval workouts. Creatine Boost helps replenish ATP (the primary energy currency of cells), giving me that extra gear when the legs start to burn on hill reps. I really noticed this on race day during week four.

Between early morning sessions, a stacked work life, and active weekends with the family, recovery time is tight. Creatine Boost has noticeably reduced muscle soreness post-workout. Waking up the morning after a long run with fresher legs has changed the game for maintaining consistency in my training.

As a 40-something balancing multiple high-stress priorities, cognitive fatigue can affect training just as much as physical exhaustion. Creatine supports cellular energy in the brain as well as muscles, and I can genuinely feel the benefit. It’s helping me stay focused and motivated even on those early mornings.

If you’re an endurance athlete who has shied away from creatine in the past, I encourage you to rethink your stack. My journey from a coma bed to marathon courses taught me to never limit what’s possible, and giving your body the right fuel is step one.
