The Halloween treat that keeps working after dark

The Halloween treat that keeps working after dark

Halloween is a sugar ambush. Fun-size bars by the bucket, toffee apples, a midnight raid on whatever the trick-or-treaters left behind.

Graveyard Pots give you the treat without the crash. Chocolate "mud", biscuit "soil" and banana "tombstones", made in five minutes with one scoop of After Dark Belgian Chocolate. It looks the part on the party table and does a proper job as an evening dessert.

Method

  1. Mix the mud. Spoon the yoghurt into a glass or jar. Add one scoop of After Dark and stir until thick, glossy and fully chocolate. Loosen with a splash of milk if it is too stiff.
  2. Bury it in soil. Crush the biscuits in a sealed bag with a rolling pin. Scatter a thick layer over the mud so none of the chocolate shows.
  3. Raise the tombstones. Cut the banana in half across, then slice each half lengthways into flat slabs. Push them upright into the soil. Pipe or scratch "RIP" on with a cocktail stick if you are feeling theatrical.
  4. Chill and serve after dark. Fifteen minutes in the fridge firms the mud right up. Eat within 24 hours, before the biscuits go soft.

After Dark figures are from the pack. Whole-pot figures are estimates based on 150g 0% fat Greek yoghurt, 1 tbsp semi-skimmed milk, 2 dark chocolate digestives and half a medium banana; check your own brands.

Want it leaner? Swap the biscuits for 1 tbsp cocoa nibs. That cuts roughly 100kcal and 10g sugar and keeps the crunch.

Why After Dark makes the perfect mud

After Dark is a slow-release protein blend of milk protein concentrate, micellar casein, skimmed milk powder and whey, with 19.9g protein per scoop. The casein-rich blend sets thick in yoghurt instead of turning watery, which makes it a natural fit for an evening dessert.

Each serving also brings:

  • Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
  • Magnesium (150mg, 40% NRV) contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Zinc (10mg, 100% NRV) contributes to normal protein synthesis.
  • Vitamin B6 (100% NRV) contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Vitamin D3 (100% NRV) contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function.
  • Plus vitamin B12, folic acid and glycine as part of the night-time formula.

Made in the UK by a certified B Corp. Suitable for vegetarians.

Tips and spooky twists

  • Make it thicker: use 120g yoghurt instead of 150g, or chill for an hour.
  • Pumpkin patch: swap the banana for orange segments and add a mint leaf "stalk".
  • Bloody graveyard: swirl a spoonful of raspberry puree through the mud before the soil goes on.
  • Ghosts: top with a dollop of plain yoghurt and two chocolate chip eyes.
  • Party prep: make the mud in a big bowl, portion into cups, and add soil and tombstones just before serving so the biscuits stay crunchy.

FAQ

Can I use whey instead of casein? You can, but whey-only powders stay runnier in yoghurt. After Dark's casein-rich blend is what gives Graveyard Pots their thick, mousse-like set.

Can I make these the night before? Make the mud ahead and keep it covered in the fridge. Add the biscuit soil and banana just before serving.

Is this suitable for kids' Halloween parties? After Dark is formulated for adults. For little monsters, make the same pots with plain chocolate yoghurt.

What can I use instead of chocolate biscuits? Crushed oat biscuits, cocoa-dusted granola or chopped dark chocolate all work as soil.

When is the best time to eat it? After Dark is designed for the evening, ideally 30 to 60 minutes before bed, but a Graveyard Pot works whenever you want a high-protein chocolate fix.
